Mido Multicenterchrono

The legendary Multicenterchrono, which was mass-produced from 1941, was the first chronograph to display the elapsed time using an indicator placed in the centre of the watch (and of the field of vision), guaranteeing optimal legibility when measuring the time. The hour and minute hands, along with the chronograph seconds and minute hands, were set at the very centre – and not in counters inside sub-dials at 3, 6 or 9 o'clock – hence the name "Multicenterchrono".

This distinctive execution is clearly visible on two models from the early 1950s. 

It has several scales: pulsometric, tachymetric and telemetric.

By its very nature, this type of watch is often associated with aviation, as in 1947, for example, when Mido equipped the pilots who set the new flight record for circumnavigating the globe to test the watch "in the field". Mido's links with the world of aviation are very strong. During the Second World War, Walter Schaeren, the son of Mido's founder, was mobilised as a pilot in the Swiss Air Force and received his wings as a lieutenant in 1942. Furthermore, in the 1940s, Mido received a certain number of testimonials from soldiers and pilots, particularly from US forces, who could all attest to the remarkable solidity, water resistance and robustness of Mido watches, which continued to work perfectly even when subjected to the most extreme conditions. It goes without saying that publicity for Mido largely echoed these laudatory testimonials.
